Clothes shopping with a serve of fried wontons… And a patch or two

Today I went clothes shopping, a task I have tried to avoid since Squeak was born. She is 15 months old now, and I desperately needed new clothes. I tended to buy cheap t-shirts from Kmart, and I had bought 2 pairs of jeans that fell down way too much. We went to DFO in Essendon, as  we hadn’t been shopping there in close to a year. We started in Rivers, a clearance outlet. I picked out 5 long sleeved t-shirts, and a thick dark pink waterfall cardigan. We then poked around in a few shops, and in typo as they had large scrabble tiles to make names. I would have bought Squeak’s name, but disappointingly they had no A. I would have loved it for her room, as I am slowly re-decorating it for her.

I then tried on a pair of jeans with a higher waist in Jeanswest. We were the only customers in the shop, and the assistant was lovely and she was quite knowledgeable about the fit of jeans, which is great as my body is quite lumpy and bumpy since I had Squeak. I have so much trouble finding jeans as I don’t like skinny leg jeans. I ended up buying 2 pairs in a dark denim.

When we got home I made pork wontons with chips in the Philips Airfryer. I have made chicken wontons before and steamed them, and have tried them fried years and years ago.

Before and After Air Frying

I didn’t get a pic of the chips, I will have to next time! They go soooo quick, and they are really good. They are a favorite in the Mopar household.

I also managed to snap a pic of Squeak’s baby quilt so far

It is 6 inch squares, alternating between nine patch and fussy cut butterfly squares. I have had a jungle theme in her room, but am considering switching to butterflies as I love this fabric soooo much. Squeak loves it and when she sees it she wants to play with it, even tho it isn’t finished. I’m still going to try to finish it by the end of the weekend. It has been an unfinished project for far too long.

Do you have unfinished projects?

Lots of love,

Dinner was a Winner!!

It’s DaddyMopar’s birthday later this week, so I thought I would cook a pot roast and a carrot cake to celebrate!!

I bought a rolled brisket from Coles supermarket a few weeks ago and froze it. At the time my only knowledge of brisket was the jokes in ‘Big Bang Theory’about brisket cooked by Howard Wolowitz’s mother. While mine was cooking in the oven I researched a bit about brisket and what they are referring to is totaly different to what I served up. My brisket is a similar cut to corned beef. There was a recipe on the back of the vaccuum bag, so I followed it loosely.

I browned the beef, then added chopped up carrot and onion, a spoonful of homemade veggie stock I keep in the fridge that I made in the Bellini. 2 cups of water, bring to boil then into oven for 3 hours, and I was supposed to turn hourly, but I forgot. I don’t think it made any difference to the finished result. I used my favorite casserole dish with lid, its a Microstoven. Nonstick, microwave, oven and stovetop safe. Dishwasher too. It was a xmas gift from my brother-in-law and I’ve had it for almost 3 years. I’d be lost without it.

After 3 hours in the oven, then half an hour with the lid off, Its time to take it out! I also cooked roast potatoes and carrots to go with it. I used the roast juices to make gravy, but it turned out more like a relish. Delicious anyhow.

For the birthday cake I made a carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I have made DaddyyMopar a carrot cake every birthday since we met. The recipe is from one of my Nannie’s cookbooks. I made it in the Bellini as I don’t enjoy grating carrots. The Bellini made it extremely quick, and I find it very easy to convert recipes to suit the Bellini. I’m hoping cakes like this, and other nice treats will be frequent to my kitchen. It was delicious, despite it’s looks. The holes in the top are from the candles, as no birthday cake is complete without candles and singing.

I also made some Anzac Biscuits, but that has a massive back-story behind it with my allergies, and I think it deserves a post of it’s own

Do you have any good recipes to share? or an idea of something new for me to cook? Let me know

Lots of love
